We are pleased to announce that our company Lucion Services has been awarded the ATaC National Training Award for 2023.
Presented at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) by Sam Lord of HSE, this achievement underscores our commitment to excellence. Group QHSE Director Chris Parr, who collected the award on behalf of Lucion, explains how Lucion recognised that traditional training methods for surveyor and analyst courses were not effectively catering to the diverse learning styles of their workforce.
The Asbestos Testing and Consultancy Association (ATaC) is the UK’s leading association representing the interests of asbestos surveyors and asbestos analysts, providing qualifications, guidance, and support to its members.
Training Approaches Transformation
In late 2021, we identified that the conventional training methods we employed were not sufficiently accommodating the diverse learning preferences of our trainees. As an inclusive employer committed to fostering a diverse workforce, it is imperative that we offer comprehensive support to our community. Our initial in-house classroom training, coupled with immediate exam assessments, did not align with the level of support we aimed to provide.
In light of this, we embarked on a search for an alternative approach. Our close partnership with ATaC led to discovering that they were also exploring innovative ways to deliver Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) courses, with a particular focus on the potential of a weekly training day. This solution resonated with Lucion, as it offered a tailored and hands-on learning experience spanning several weeks.
A Streamlined, and Responsive System
Since its launch in June, we have found the booking portal to be user-friendly, simplifying the reservation process. The training team promptly confirms our bookings, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience. In instances where adjustments to our bookings were required, ATaC displayed remarkable flexibility.
Overall, our interactions with ATaC regarding the provision of RSPH Analyst and Surveyor Level 3 qualifications over the past 18 months have been straightforward and fulfilling. Our technicians have greatly benefited from the weekly modular approach, which, although delivered online, stands apart from traditional e-learning methods by maintaining the crucial interaction between a tutor and the trainees.
Integrated Online Support with Onsite Mentoring
Supplementary on-site training for our trainees is expertly guided by our in-house mentors, proving to be highly effective in preparing individuals for their attendance at one of ATaC’s assessment centres for practical and written exams. Feedback from our newly authorised trainees has been overwhelmingly positive, emphasising the effectiveness of the vocational and modular learning format.
Moreover, the fact that RSPH qualifications are Ofqual registered instils us with an additional layer of confidence in the quality and rigour of the course content and assessment standards. The swift turnaround time from taking exams to receiving results has impressed us, enabling us to act promptly, ensuring all necessary audits are in place, and empowering newly authorised team members to commence their authorised work with confidence, thereby enhancing their value within our team.
Lucion Award-Winning Training Providers
We take immense pride in our recognition by ATaC. At the recent Annual General Meeting, Stephen Sadley, Chief Executive of the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA), announced Lucion as the ATaC National Training Award winner for 2023. This acknowledgement reflects our satisfaction with the accomplishments of our team members over the past year.
