Aberdeen Radiation Protection Services is delighted to announce that Radiation Protection Adviser (Designate) Dr Michael Halim has achieved a significant milestone in his professional development.
Michael has been awarded the AURPO (Association of University Radiation Protection Officers) / University of Strathclyde Certificate of Professional Development in Radiation Protection.
Developed in 2002 through collaboration between the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Strathclyde, AURPO, the Health and Safety Executive, and RPA2000, the course covers all aspects of radiation protection including the health and safety of radiation workers and environmental protection.
The primary objective of this course is to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to function effectively as Radiation Protection Officers (RPOs). It also caters to those with aspirations to become Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs) or Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWAs), guiding them in demonstrating the essential core knowledge and competencies outlined in Annex 3 of the HSE Statement on RPAs and the syllabus set forth by EA/SEPA for RWAs.
Whilst the course does not confer the official designation of RPA or RWA, it focuses on evaluating and showcasing core competencies that can prove invaluable if attendees decide to pursue formal accreditation as an RPA or RWA through a recognised body like RPA2000.
Michael completed eight course works and five final assignments, and took part in discussion forums as part of his studies. For our clients, this is evidence that ARPS and our team are dedicated to continuing professional development, staying ahead of the latest research and providing a service to our clients in line with the latest regulations.
Michael commented on this latest achieving saying;
“The course has enhanced my knowledge in using IRR17, EPR16 and EASR18 in my work as a trainee Radiation Protection Adviser in the UK.
I am now carrying out my duties with a high level of confidence and starting to build my RPA 2000 portfolio aspiring to become a fully certified RPA and RWA."
Michael received Higher Education Sponsorship from the Society for Radiological Protection’s Awards and Sponsorship Committee to pay for the course fees.
Radiation Services Director Matt Brodie said;
“This is a great achievement which will stand Michael in good stead in his career development.”
