We are pleased to announce that our Laboratory Technician Mike Swinburn has achieved accreditation in the Selection, Use and Testing of Radiological Protection Instrumentation by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). This achievement means we can now manage more of our radiation monitor services in-house including radiation monitor purchase, hire, calibration, repair and maintenance services.
In 2019, Mike became a Laboratory Technician in the Aberdeen Radiation Protection Services (ARPS) team. Before this role, he worked as a formation damage technician for six years. Mike holds a Biology degree from Aberdeen University. In his previous position, he conducted tests on core plugs using various application fluids to determine changes in permeability and porosity. These fluids included different formulated mud types, injection waters, and acid treatments. Mike also gained expertise in specialised techniques within the Special Core Analysis Laboratory, such as Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), which involved constructing Injection Polymers.
Since joining ARPS, Mike has dedicated himself to enhancing the management of radiation monitors and sample analysis services provided by the organisation.
“Since joining ARPS in 2019, my career development has been supported with resources and training to allow myself, and the Group to develop and expand the services provided for our clients. My most recent accreditation from UKHSA in Selection, Use and Testing of Radiological Protection Instrumentation is a good example of training provided to support and bolster the monitor services we provide.”
- Mike Swinburn, Laboratory Technician, Aberdeen Radiation Protection Services.
