Flood Risk Assessments

Detailed Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) can determine site-specific risks from tidal, fluvial, surface water, groundwater, and artificial sources. These assessments will identify receptors at risk, recommend mitigation measures, and assess residual risks to ensure your development or investment is safe from flooding without exacerbating risk elsewhere. A staged approach can be provided, from initial advice or a high-level portfolio-wide assessment to more detailed reports, including hydraulic modelling, and drainage design. Our team has extensive knowledge of the requirements of statutory consultees on planning applications and how to maximise opportunities, including on constrained sites.

Drainage Strategies

Comprehensive Drainage Strategies demonstrate how surface water will be managed to avoid increasing flood risk, in line with national guidance and CIRIA best-practice. These strategies assess the most appropriate Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) solutions, from outline planning to detailed design stages, and can include Soakaway Testing to inform the evaluation of the Drainage Hierarchy. Our team is aware of the subtle differences between Lead Local Flood Authority requirements and looks for opportunities for combined planning benefits e.g. with Biodiversity Net Gain.

Flood Risk Permitting

Our team can assist you in obtaining the necessary Ordinary Watercourse / Land Drainage Consents and Flood Risk Activity Permits, navigating the complex regulatory framework to ensure compliance. We will conduct site assessments, coordinate with authorities and the wider design team, and prepare the required documentation to streamline the permitting process.

Environmental Statements

We produce Environmental Statement Chapters (supported by Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies) as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment process, helping evaluate and mitigate the water-related aspects of your development’s potential effects on the wider environment.

Nutrient Neutrality

Where your site has the potential to affect water quality in protected areas, we can provide assessments to evaluate and demonstrate how “nutrient neutrality” can be achieved.
