Testimonials

Thorough risk assessment, considerate of the nature of the proposed development. Lucion Delta-Simons Ltd identified pragmatic, cost-saving solutions designed to reduce disposal requirements and negate potential risks to future development.

Royal Albert Docks Representative

The project team have provided invaluable advice and expert reports on the geo-environmental aspects of this complex site culminating in obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals from the Local Authority, Natural England and the Environment Agency to allow the development to proceed. The team have allowed us to proceed with confidence on this complex and challenging scheme. We look forward to working with the team throughout the enabling/construction works and also on future brownfield regeneration projects.

Geotechnical Compressibility Testing FAQs

Compressibility testing is a type of geotechnical testing that measures how soil samples deform and settle under applied loads. It is important because it provides critical data for assessing the bearing capacity and settlement potential of soils, which are essential factors in the design and construction of foundations, embankments, and other geotechnical structures.

Without accurate compressibility data, there is a risk of excessive settlement, structural damage, or even failure, which can have serious consequences for safety, performance, and cost.

Lucion offers a comprehensive range of compressibility testing services, including:

  • Consolidation testing: Determines the compressibility and settlement characteristics of soil samples under applied loads using oedometer apparatus.
  • Swell testing: Determines the potential for soil samples to swell or increase in volume when exposed to water using swell test apparatus.
  • Triaxial compression testing: Determines the shear strength and stress-strain behaviour of soil samples under controlled drainage and confining pressure conditions using triaxial apparatus.

These tests are performed in accordance with relevant industry standards, such as ASTM and BS, to ensure the quality and consistency of the results.

We are committed to providing the highest standards of quality and reliability in our compressibility testing services.

As a UKAS-accredited testing laboratory No. 8180, we follow rigorous quality assurance procedures, including regular equipment calibration, staff training, and participation in proficiency testing programs.

We also hold ISO 9001:2015 certification for our quality management systems, demonstrating our commitment to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Our experienced team of geotechnical engineers and laboratory technicians follows standardised procedures and best practices to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and traceability of our compressibility testing results.

The turnaround time for compressibility testing results depends on the specific type and number of tests required, as well as the complexity of the project and the client’s needs.

Typically, consolidation testing can take several weeks to complete, due to the time required for the soil samples to fully consolidate under each load increment. Swell testing and triaxial compression testing may have shorter turnaround times, depending on the specific test procedures and the client’s requirements.

We work closely with you to understand your project timelines and provide regular updates on the progress of the testing. We strive to deliver accurate, reliable results as efficiently as possible, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service.

Yes, we have extensive experience in providing compressibility testing services for a wide range of soil types and project conditions. Our geotechnical laboratory facilities and experienced team are equipped to handle a variety of soil samples, from soft clays to dense sands and gravels, and from natural soils to engineered fills and stabilised materials. We have successfully completed compressibility testing projects for clients in diverse sectors, including transportation, infrastructure, commercial, and residential development, and for projects of varying scales and complexity.

Whether your project involves shallow foundations, deep foundations, embankments, or other geotechnical structures, we have the expertise and capabilities to provide the compressibility testing services you need to ensure the safety, stability, and performance of your project.
