Michael Kirkland Logistics Capital Partners

Lucion is a professional and very approachable organisation. Extremely helpful in giving technical advice on asbestos management issues.

NHS Property Services Ltd

Lucion Delta-Simons Ltd took on a hopelessly muddled attempt at remediation coupled with very difficult relations between contractors and the regulatory authorities and quickly introduced clarity and coherence to the situation.  Their advice was succinct and to the point and yet detailed enough to satisfy the regulators. A seemingly intractable situation was resolved quickly, and without fuss allowing us to get on with the development.

Land Hazardous Materials FAQs

Lucion’s Land Hazardous Materials Surveys are distinguished by our experienced and qualified team, our internationally UKAS accredited laboratories, our tailored approach to each client’s unique needs, and our commitment to delivering clear, actionable results. Our innovative NexGen delivery system provides real-time project tracking and data access, giving you unparalleled visibility and control over your hazardous materials management. With Lucion as your partner, you can have confidence in the quality, reliability, and value of our services, as we work together to create a safer, healthier environment for your stakeholders.

A Land Hazardous Materials Survey provides the critical information you need to identify, assess, and manage the risks associated with hazardous materials on your site. By understanding the nature and extent of any contamination or hazardous building materials, you can make informed decisions about remediation, disposal, and risk management strategies. Lucion’s surveys also help you navigate the complex regulatory landscape, ensuring that you meet your legal obligations and avoid costly penalties or liabilities.

Lucion’s Land Hazardous Materials Surveys are tailored to the specific needs of each site and client. Typically, our surveys include a comprehensive site inspection and assessment to identify potential hazards, sampling and testing of suspect materials using our UKAS accredited laboratories, detailed reporting on the presence, location, and condition of hazardous materials, risk assessments and recommendations for management or remediation, and guidance on regulatory compliance and best practices.

The primary regulation governing the management of hazardous materials on land sites in the UK is the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations. These regulations require employers to assess the risks associated with hazardous substances and implement appropriate control measures to protect workers and others who may be affected.

Other relevant regulations include the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005, and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

Land Hazardous Materials Surveys are essential for a wide range of sites, including brownfield sites, buildings slated for renovation or demolition, industrial properties, and any land asset where hazardous materials may be present. These surveys are particularly important for older sites or those with a history of industrial use, as they are more likely to contain legacy contamination or hazardous building materials.

Hazardous materials are substances that pose a risk to human health or the environment due to their toxic, corrosive, flammable, or reactive properties. Common examples include asbestos, lead, PCBs, and mercury, which can be found in building materials, soil, groundwater, and other site features.

Exposure to these materials can cause serious health problems, while their improper management can lead to environmental contamination and legal liabilities.
