Ecological Appraisals FAQ

Our client-centric approach, technical expertise, and deep understanding of UK legislation and planning policies enable us to deliver bespoke solutions that meet your project’s unique needs while contributing to the protection and enhancement of local biodiversity. With Lucion as your partner, you can navigate the complex world of ecological regulations with confidence.

Our experienced ecologists provide the guidance you need to navigate complex regulations, overcome ecological challenges, and achieve your project goals in harmony with nature.

We work closely with you to identify potential constraints early on, provide tailored solutions that satisfy regulatory requirements, and find innovative ways to protect and enhance the natural environment as part of your project.

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal comprises a desk study to gather background information, followed by an on-site habitat survey. Our ecologists then assess the site’s potential to support protected or notable species, identify any features of ecological importance, and provide recommendations for further surveys or mitigation measures. The optimal survey period is between April and September when vegetation is more easily identifiable.

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal should be undertaken as early as possible in the project planning stage, ideally before land acquisition or submitting a planning application. This allows any ecological issues to be identified and addressed proactively.

A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal is an initial assessment of a site’s ecological value, comprising a desk study, habitat survey, and appraisal of potential ecological constraints and opportunities.

It is often a requirement for planning applications and helps ensure that ecological considerations are taken into account early in the development process, reducing the risk of delays or additional costs.
