This course meets the requirements of IRR17 and teaches delegates the basic principles of radiation protection and how it should be applied at the workplace.
Delivered as a mix of classroom teaching and practical exercises. Includes a visit to a NORM decontamination facility where delegates will gain ‘hands-on’ experience in radiation monitoring techniques and applying radiation controls at the worksite.
There is a written assessment at the end of the course and a certificate will be issued to those delegates that demonstrate a clear understanding of the hazards, risk and controls to be applied when working with ionising radiations.
The course covers the following subjects:
• Basic Physics of Ionising Radiations
• Biological Effects of Ionising Radiations
• UK Legislation and the role of the RPS
• Sealed Sources – including nucleonic gauges, survey, and logging sources
• Industrial Radiography
• Unsealed Sources, including NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material)
• Monitoring Instruments
• Personal Dosimetry
• Emergency Response
• Overview of the Transport Requirements for shipping Radioactive Materials
