Delta-Simons is a multi-disciplinary environmental and health and safety consultancy providing trusted Environmental, Social, Governance and Sustainability advice and solutions to ‘Protect People and Planet’ through facilitating sustainable development. Our chemical specialist Client recognised a growing expectation from their clients to provide detailed responses on their sustainability commitments and performance, particularly regarding greenhouse gas emissions.
Delta-Simons was requested by our Client to undertake a Corporate ESG Benchmarking Assessment, known as Phase 1 of the project, supporting the development of a ESG enhancement strategy for the business.
In addition to commitments to carbon reduction addressed in a separate report delivered by Delta-Simons, our Client wished to establish a route forward to enhance performance across the wider spectrum of ESG issues, including benchmarking current performance and developing an outline ESG enhancement strategy for the business.
Contract Challenges
Our client features multiple specialisms that cover industrial/general chemicals, metal surface treatment, food and beverage ingredients and chemical packing and fulfilment services all operating from a single head office, manufacturing and storage facility in the UK.
The key objectives of the ESG Materiality Assessment were to determine the key priority topics for the business and stakeholders across the business. As a multi-faceted company, attaining engagement across all key stakeholders proved a challenge.
Our Solution
To overcome the challenge of determining stakeholder ESG objectives across such a large business, our team conducted 5 workshops during phase 1 of the three-phase project. Phase 1 included;
- Establish Materiality – What elements of ESG are MOST important to the organisation;
- Benchmark Current Performance – Understand where the organisation’s has strengths, weaknesses and possible risks across ESG themes; and
- Develop a prioritised ESG Action Plan to address areas where ESG performance improvements can be achieved, prioritised to align with the Client’s areas of focus.
These insights provide a valuable foundation to guide communication, redefine the wider strategy and integrate sustainability so that our Client can showcase their ESG journey to support the profitability and longevity of the business.
